Spiritual Notes to Myself

I read this the other day and was blown away at the thought…

“Jesus’ life didn’t go well.  He didn’t reach his earning potential.  He didn’t have the respect of his colleagues.  His friends weren’t loyal.  His life wasn’t long.  He didn’t meet his soul mate.  And he wasn’t understood by his mother.  Yet I think I deserve all those things because I’m so spiritual.”  -Hugh Prather

God purpose to us is not like that…HE wants the best for us,, if we experience hardship, persecution..or whatever… its because we want to follow JESUS..

youre right, God does purpose good things for us… of course he does. i mean, think about it, through grace God has given us more than we could ever deserve or hope for, but yet, so many Christians forget/overlook the fact that we were never promised that life would be rosy and easy if we follow Jesus. i remember Jesus himself saying, “daily, die to yourself… pick up your cross and follow me.”

dont get thrown by the blog… its just a thought, even a self reflection to gain some perspective so that when we encounter various trials and tough spots (ie.. not having the respect of colleagues, being misunderstood, unloyal friends… whatever)– it comes with the territory.

sometimes i think we can look at our lives and make the rationalization, “Im being so spiritual… I read my Bible today… I prayed… Why is all this junk happening to me? i dont deserve this.”
But if we were to take a step back and think…. “hmmm, no one was more spiritual than Jesus and yet he had to deal with the same kind of stuff that I am… maybe the trials we experience have less to do with us being spiritual and more to do with us living in a fallen world.”
